CARE &
MAINTENANCE OF YOUR SEWING MACHINE
Whether you sew just a little bit
or all of the time, it is important to treat your machine well! Proper care will ensure that you and your machine can have
a long-lasting and healthy relationship. Below are some general guidelines that can be applied to most machines.
Before you begin a project make sure that you are using the correct bobbin for your machine. There are generic items
on the market that will give you problems. We recommend using only Janome bobbins in Janome machines.
Ever wondered how often you should change the needle? Don't wait until it breaks! Change your needle after every eight
hours of sewing or if it makes a ticking or thumping noise. Also make sure that you are sewing with the proper needle for
the job. There are many needles available for different types of sewing. If you're not sure about which needle to use, click this link for more information.
After you have completed a project it is a good idea to spend a few minutes cleaning out your machine. Dust out the
areas you can access and apply a dab of oil. Don't ever use canned air because it only spreads lint and foreign matter into
the inner workings of the machine, and contains moisture which can lead to internal parts rusting.
Although it may seem obvious, make sure to read your owner's manual. The more you know about your machine, the better
you can help it perform.
Finally, when you receive your annual maintenance reminder, please bring the machine into the store. Our highly-experienced
factory-trained technicians can spot any potential problems and will give your machine a thorough cleaning and tune-up. By
taking excellent care of your machine, it will serve you well for many years to come.
Happy Sewing!
